GEOTECHNICAL MACHINERY FLEET

The field testing and sample taking phase are of great importance within the phases comprising a geotechnical study. To guarantee the control and reliability of this work, CODEXSA has its own resources to perform it.

The personnel that handles the equipment is salaried and has ample experience conducting these activities.

Over the years, the fleet of machinery has been expanded with increasingly more versatile resources that enable us to act in different situations. So we have wheeled equipment, equipment with chains, light equipment, etc.

The latest addition to our machinery fleet is a TP-60/300 probe that, due to its small size, is quite useful in difficult to access works and enables us to probe in urban quarters. We are thus able to reach sites that other equipment cannot.

CALIBRATION OF PROBING EQUIPMENT:

REAL SPT ENERGY

CODEXSA has calibrated the SPTs of each of its units to thus obtain the appropriate energy correction factor. This factor depends on the type of machine and the specific drop hammer falling system, its value therefore resulting greater than the unit. This implies that, if this correction is not available, the land's resistance would be underestimated. This would entail an overestimate of the foundation and other structural elements, and therefore, a lack of economic efficiency in the project.

Calibrations have been performed according to standards UNE-EN ISO 22476-3:2006 and ASTM D4633. A dynamic pile driving analyzer (Pile Dynamics PAL-L) and a pile driving bar instrumented with two extensimeters and two accelerometers. The data recorded have been analyzed via the specific software called PDA-W (Pile Dynamics) to obtain correction factors for each unit.

Declaration of tests conducted

Legislation regarding free access to service activities and their execution forces entities and laboratories which control construction quality to adjust to the appropriate regulations, specifically article 14 of Law 38/1999 of November 5 on Building Standards, and article 15 of Law 25/2009 of December 22, which modifies several laws to be adapted to the Law on free access to service activities and their execution, which partially overrules to our legal system Directive 2006/123/EC of December 12 of the European Parliament and Council, regarding services in the domestic market.

All of this is made effective through RD 410/2010 of March 31, which describes the requirements which can be asked of entities that monitor construction quality and laboratories that test construction quality in order for them to perform their activities. Said Royal Decree replaced RD 1230/1989, Order FOM/2060/2020, Order FOM/898/2004, and any other dispositions of an equal or lesser standing which oppose the provisions of said RD.

Andalusia has overruled this RD in Decree 67/2011 which regulates quality control in construction and public works in this autonomous community.

As a result of applying RD 410/2010, laboratory accreditations given by Autonomous Boards are annulled, and Responsible Declarations made by each laboratory regarding the tests they can carry out with the personnel and materials available to them are applicable. Said declaration should be presented to the corresponding Board of the Autonomous Community to which the laboratory belongs. The laboratory will then receive a unique registration number. Tests declared will be listed in the Laboratory Register available nationally through the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, and at an autonomous level through the Public Works and Housing Board (in Andalusia).
